Terry Schoenfeld, Pastor of Cornerstone Evangelical Free Church in Webster Groves, MO turned to the Old Testament to encourage pastors in expository preaching at the St. Louis/Eastern Missouri Ministry Community on Thursday May 21st.  A link to the adio file can be found under the Podcast file.

Several churches are making hymnals available to church plants or other EFCA ministries:

• Glenwood Community Church, Glenwood, IA has100 used copies of the Worship His Majesty hymnal by the Gaither Music Company. Contact Pastor Mark Smelzer for more information at pastor@glenwoodcommunitychurch.info.
• Salem Evangelical Church, Florissant, MO has approximately 330 – The Hymnal – © 1941, Eden Publishing House (this is from the old Evangelical & Reformed denomination) and approximately 100  – Elmhurst Hymnal – © 1921; revised 1966.  Contact Pastor Jeff Schultz at jschultz@salemefree.org.

World Impact’s St. Louis Director Kelly Schjenken approached me this week about the organization’s internship program.  We plan a follow-up discussion about mutual cooperation between World Impact and the EFCA in planting a church in urban St. Louis.  Internship terms are one year,  but summertime internships are also a possibility.  Read more in the attached document.

The inaugeral EFCA Ministry Community event was held March 19th and drew about 45 pastors, church planters, ministers, seminary students and friends of the EFCA for networking and equipping. EFCA Direcor of Reconciliation Alvin Sanders is organizing “Samaritan Leadership Groups” to advance reconciliation as a mission among Evaneglical Free Churches.  The groups will receive coaching, evaluate leadership resources, develop strategies, pray and build relationships that foster both racial and interpersonal reconciliation.

Every other month, Evangelical Free Church Pastors have been meeting for lunch.  We’ve decided that on three dates in 2009 we will change the format in two ways:

·         Beginning March 19, 2009 from 10:00 am – 1:30 pm (with lunch), the EFCA Central District and member churches will sponsor a networking and equipping time at St. Paul’s Evangelical Free Church, 9801 Olive Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63141.  You are invited!  We’ve asked Larry Austin, a former pastor and Director of Church Health for the Central District to share with us.  More about the program in a minute.
